Our pilot came together after months of exhaustive research on his family tree leading back to the Harlan Bay area of Cornwall.
We planned a trip to gorgeous Cornwall, rich with folklore and stories of sirens, giants, and witches. It began as it so often does, with Josh and I peppering each other with questions, “What if...we set a British crime drama in Cornwall…and what if we explored its many myths and legends?” And HELSTON was born.
OF SAINTS & SCHOLARS is a vehicle for women–smart, funny, sexy women of all ages, but especially those beauties age 40 and up. It’s a story in need of a strong female cast, and its audience is anyone needing a reminder that their voice matters. If the same audience enjoys a scenic trip across Ireland, all the better! When I visited the London theatre, The Rose, several years ago, I couldn’t get it out of my head. Such a funky space with an important history, and I couldn’t help feeling that The Rose has a soul. My father was a History professor, which might explain why history plays a big part in the inspiration for my screenplays. When I shared with him that I was writing a film about Shakespeare’s lost years, he leaned in just a little closer. Then I got to tell him it’s a time travel story.
ZEPHYR packs a lot of heart in its 14 concise pages. It’s a story of fathers and sons, of forgiveness, and acceptance. For anyone who has wrestled with a painful break within the family, ZEPHYR takes us on a journey of redemption.
