Helston

Think the X-Files meets the BBC…

For anyone that’s ever sent their DNA into the abyss only to launch an obsessive search for your ancestry, my husband and writing partner on HELSTON is your kind of person. Our pilot came together after months of exhaustive research on his family tree leading back to the Harlan Bay area of Cornwall.

We planned a trip to gorgeous Cornwall, rich with folklore and stories of sirens, giants, and witches. It began as it so often does, with Josh and I peppering each other with questions, “What if...we set a British crime drama in Cornwall…and what if we explored its many myths and legends?” And HELSTON was born.

Of Saints & Scholars

OF SAINTS & SCHOLARS is a vehicle for women–smart, funny, sexy women of all ages, but especially those beauties age 40 and up. It’s a story in need of a strong female cast, and its audience is anyone needing a reminder that their voice matters. If the same audience enjoys a scenic trip across Ireland, all the better! Slainté!

The Rose

This time-traveling dramedy is a little bit like if Shakespeare in Love had a love child with Hot Tub Time Machine…

When I visited the London theatre, The Rose, several years ago, I couldn’t get it out of my head. Such a funky space with an important history, and I couldn’t help feeling that The Rose has a soul. My father was a History professor, which might explain why history plays a big part in the inspiration for my screenplays. When I shared with him that I was writing a film about Shakespeare’s lost years, he leaned in just a little closer. Then I got to tell him it’s a time travel story.

“A wonderful and timely film. Not only do we need stories about women finding their voice and films with strong female leads, but it’s also great that the protagonist is a women over 50 years old. And on top of that she gets to be the object of desire, the older woman, and it’s not just about sex or fun, it’s about what she has to offer any man and also herself.’

“A poignant story of a May-December love affair, with rich literary allusions, and set against the lush backdrop of Ireland. The story takes an unexpected path, but we enjoy the immensely satisfying journey thanks to the robust character development and the authenticity of the story…I shed a tear at the end…”

“The hallmarks of a great writer is when the audience feels the empathy & power of their investments in protagonists, while simultaneously feeling that they are in “safe hands”. This script has several paths to productions.”
